Many of us have our favorite fonts that we like to use, and if that happens to be something other than the default font in Microsoft Word, it can be tedious to manually change that every time you open up a new document. Luckily, there’s a relatively easy way to change the default font in Microsoft Word.
- When you set a font as the default font in Microsoft Office Word 2010 and Word 2013, and you then restart Word, the changes are not retained. To set and make sure that the style of the default font in Word 2010 or Word 2013 is retained or saved, follow these steps: If you do not have a document open.
- Select Default and then select Yes to apply the change to all new documents based on the template. In Word for the web you can change the font color in a particular document, but you can't set it as default.
Nov 19, 2019 When you set a default font, every new document you open will use the font settings that you selected and set as the default. The default font applies to new documents that are based on the active template, usually Normal.dotm. You can create different templates to use different default font settings. How to change default font in Word for Windows? Change the default font. Changing the default font in any template means that the font is used in every new document that is based on that template. For example, the default font for new blank documents is based on the Normal template. Open the template or a document based on the template whose default settings you want to change.
- Just like the specialized templates that you open when creating specific types of documents, the blank screen that you get when you create a new document is also based on a template–just with completely minimal formatting. So in order to make changes to this default template, you need to open up the font options box. The easiest way to do this is with a keyboard shortcut. For Mac users, hit Command + D. For Windows users, hit Ctrl + D instead.
- Change the font to the one you’d like to use. Don’t hit “OK.” Instead, click the “Default” button. You’ll get a confirmation message, making sure that you want to make these changes to the normal template. Click “Yes” to confirm.

Symptoms

Cause
This can happen when you only apply the settings to the open document and not to all documents.
The Microsoft site requires his product key.Can anyone recommend a piece of software for OS X that gives the product key for his Office 2011?
If this was a PC I'd just use ProduKey or some such utility. I know that I can probably follow this up with Microsoft, but I was hoping to get this laptop to him today. Also wondering about a download for Office 2011.
